The New Era Brass Band is an up and coming New Orleans Style ( Dixie Land/ Jazz) Brass Band. The Band was founded in 2002 by Safiyy Abdel-Ra’oof, who formed the band for local high school graduations and parties in the summer before he departed to attend college at Southern University in Baton Rouge. Not Knowing what he started, the band was a success and that’s when the band started playing around the city of New Orleans and they have been playing New Orleans Brass Band music every since. The New Era Brass Band has played all over the great State of Louisiana and across the World. New Era Brass Band has preformed for the Governor of the State of Louisiana, highly elected officials of the City of New Orleans and Baton Rouge, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Southern University (Baton Rouge, New Orleans), downtown Baton Rouge on 3rd street for” Live after Five” , numerous 2nd line Parades, and countless parties and wedding receptions all across the State of Louisiana. Members of the New Era Brass Band have over 100 years of experience in Jazz/Dixie Land music. Members of the band have played with other Brass Bands such as the Real Untouchables Brass Band, All for One Brass Band, Nu Groove Brass Band, Showtime Brass Band and the Jr. Rebirth Brass Band just to name a few of them. New Orleans Dixie Land music has a rich and historic tradition in the city of New Orleans and around the world. The New Era Brass Band Instrumentation can range from five pieces to as big as ten pieces. The standard instrumentation is a trumpet, tuba, trombone, snare and bass drum. The New Era Bass Band plays a wide variety of music from Louis Armstrong to today’s top 40, but what makes New Era so unique is that we play our songs with a New Orleans style flavor that is a one of a kind sound that you will never forget. The New Era Brass Band is trying to expand the rich and historic tradition all across the State of Louisiana so that people can get a little piece of history that is a real big tradition in the city of New Orleans. The New Era Brass Band is just a band that is trying to keep the tradition of the New Orleans Dixie Land Band around by playing New Orleans style music and sharing it with others in and around the State of Louisiana.
